James and I decided to organise a zoo outing to mark the celebration of Jovan's 1 year old birthday and our anniversary. We were contemplating to go on Sun, our actual anniversary date or today as we have both taken leave. Basing on the weather forecast, statistics showed cloudy on sunday whereas heavy showers with thunderstorm on Mon. James decided to make a bet and we went on Sun afternoon. Car park was almost full and the weather started to turn for the worse. We still took the risk and bought admission tix. Even rented a pull cart for the kids at 15 bucks! Both seemed to be enjoying so much as they were both strapped as James pulled them along in the zoo. We went in around 4p.m. Sky started to turn overcast and we heard thunderstorms but still wanted to take a bet, thinking we could win the battle. My sixth sense told me we needed to buy some rain tools for the kids. I rushed to the gift shop and bought disposable ponchos for the 2. James managed to bring Jovin watch a sea-lion splash performance as it was drizzling. As soon as the show ended, heavy downpour started. The crowd was all stuck at the shelter there. Jovan was already in his poncho and we helped Jovin to out it on too. Both were so amused and found it very interesting wearing the poncho. We had to wait for the rain and guess what? Jovan fell asleep. Had to carry him as the pram was at the entrance since we rented the pull cart. We waited for the rain but there was still drizzling as we were walking out. What a pathetic sight. James and I were all drenched.... We went to request for a re-visit to the zoo since we didn't even take the tram and only saw 3 animals! They were kind enough to give us a 1 week extension of the tix. Nevertheless, we still went to have dinner at Ajisen Ramen and the kids were sleeping. Haha, James and I got to enjoy a peaceful and romantic dinner :)
This morning, the House of 'Js' rose up bright and early and set off at 9.30a.m. I made all the necessary prep with rain coats etc. The weather was good and we forsake renting the pull-cart since the kids already had their fair share of fun yesterday. Decided to stick to pram as Jovan would definitely need to take his nap. It was a wonderful and rewarding trip for both. We last visited the zoo during Jovin's 1 year old birthday. Now, we are back once again to celebrate Jovan's 1 year old! Jovin is now better able to appreciate the animals and was very excited as she saw crocodiles, lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras etc.
We went to the newly launched Rainforest Kids Zone too. But I didn't prepare swimsuit for her, so she went to the playground instead and both Jovin and Jovan took their turns on the swing under Daddy's accompaniment hehe. Jovin loved to see the animals but she complained it was very smelly and stood very far away at the feeding areas. Jovan exclaimed excitedly when he saw squirrels running here and there from the glass panel and played happily with Jovin.
Jovin also enjoyed the pony ride as the steward led her around the fields. She was very brave and posed beautifully for us. She went to touch and feel the pony and told me it's a girl like herself as the steward uncle told her. We brought Jovin watch animal show and she posed with the dogs and was daring enough to feel and touch a little snake. Brave of u, my little princess!
There was slight drizzle around 2p.m but the skies soon cleared and we moved on by hopping onto tram since our tix covered unlimited tram rides. it was a joy and relaxing to enjoy the breeze as the tram took us see the animals. Jovin really walked a lot as she ran and excited upon seeing the animals which she only knew from the books. To be able to feel and get up close to them was a rare opportunity to her. She was able to name and tell us most of the common animals. As for Jovan, he was excited upon seeing some animals too but missed out some as he took 2 naps in total. After seeing the animals as we strolled, we headed for the tram for a final animal sight-seeing tour.
It was a very fruitful and enjoyable trip. We arrived at 10a.m and left at 4p.m! On the return trip, Jovin was dead asleep whereas Jovan was still energetic as he took 2 naps. The kids and us enjoyed the trip, though on 2 different days but it was very worthwhile. We will make another trip perhaps next year. Planning for other outings maybe Jurong Bird Park which the kids have never been to. Shall make some advance planning.
